PT-141

A bremelanotide that works through melanocortin pathways in the brain involved in sexual desire and arousal rather than acting primarily on blood flow. It may support sexual desire, arousal, and overall sexual wellness in appropriate patients under medical supervision.

Common questions, honest answers.

How is PT-141 different from Viagra or Cialis?

  • Viagra and Cialis primarily work by increasing blood flow to support erectile function. PT-141 works through the central nervous system and melanocortin pathways associated with sexual desire and arousal, so its mechanism is distinctly different.

  • Can both women and men use PT-141?

  • Bremelanotide is FDA-approved for certain premenopausal women with acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). It has also been studied in men, but use in men is off-label and requires individualized medical evaluation.

  • How long do the effects last?

  • Individual response varies, and there is no guaranteed duration of effect. Your provider can help determine appropriate timing based on your response and treatment plan.

  • How often can PT-141 be used?

  • For FDA-approved bremelanotide, labeling specifies no more than one dose within 24 hours and no more than eight doses per month. Individual treatment instructions should always come from the prescribing provider.

  • What’s the cancellation policy?

  • We kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Cancellations within 24 hours will incur a 50% fee. If we arrive and are unable to reach you or access the appointment location after a brief grace period, the visit will be considered a no-show and may be charged up to the full service amount. Same-day bookings require a minimum of 4 hours’ notice for any changes. As each appointment is reserved exclusively for you — including provider time and travel — we appreciate your understanding.

  • Are there conditions that disqualify someone?

  • PT-141 is contraindicated in people with uncontrolled hypertension or known cardiovascular disease under the FDA-approved labeling for bremelanotide. Pregnancy, medications, medical history, and other cardiovascular risk factors should also be reviewed before treatment.

  • Does PT-141 increase libido or just physical arousal?

  • PT-141 is different from therapies that primarily target physical blood flow. Because it acts on central melanocortin pathways, it may influence sexual desire, arousal, and responsiveness.

  • How long does it take to notice increased pigmentation?

  • There is no established treatment timeline, and individual response can vary based on baseline skin tone, genetics, dose, and other factors. Changes in pigmentation may develop gradually rather than immediately.

  • Do I still need sunscreen while using Melanotan II?

  • Yes. Increased pigmentation does not eliminate the risk of UV-related skin damage or skin cancer. Broad-spectrum sunscreen and appropriate sun-protective measures remain important.

  • Do I need to tan or use UV exposure with Melanotan II?

  • Melanotan II can increase pigmentation, but intentional UV exposure carries established risks and should not be considered “safe” because Melanotan II is being used. We would avoid positioning tanning beds or additional UV exposure as part of the treatment protocol.

  • Can Melanotan II make freckles or moles darker?

  • It can increase pigmentation of existing freckles, moles, and other pigmented areas. Any new, rapidly changing, irregular, bleeding, itching, or otherwise concerning lesion should be evaluated by a qualified dermatology provider.

  • Candidacy requires individualized medical evaluation. A history of melanoma or other skin cancers, atypical/dysplastic nevi, concerning pigmented lesions, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or certain medical conditions may make treatment inappropriate or warrant additional evaluation.

  • What are the possible side effects?

  • Reported effects can include nausea, flushing, decreased appetite, headache, fatigue, increased pigmentation of freckles or moles, and changes in libido or spontaneous erections. Because Melanotan II is investigational, its complete long-term safety profile has not been established.
