Common questions, honest answers.

Is Tesamorelin a weight-loss medication?

  • No. Tesamorelin is not FDA-approved for general weight loss or obesity management. Its FDA-approved indication is reducing excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV and lipodystrophy.

  • Can Tesamorelin reduce abdominal fat?

  • Tesamorelin has demonstrated reductions in visceral abdominal fat in its FDA-approved patient population. Using it for body-composition goals outside that indication is different and should be discussed individually with a qualified provider.

  • How is Tesamorelin different from GLP-1 medications?

  • GLP-1–based medications primarily affect appetite, satiety, and glucose regulation. Tesamorelin instead stimulates the body’s growth-hormone pathway, so the medications have distinctly different mechanisms and approved uses.

  • How quickly might I notice results?

  • Response varies by individual and treatment goal. Changes in body composition generally develop over time rather than immediately, and ongoing evaluation can help determine whether treatment is producing an appropriate response.

  • What’s the cancellation policy?

  • We kindly ask for at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Cancellations within 24 hours will incur a 50% fee. If we arrive and are unable to reach you or access the appointment location after a brief grace period, the visit will be considered a no-show and may be charged up to the full service amount. Same-day bookings require a minimum of 4 hours’ notice for any changes. As each appointment is reserved exclusively for you — including provider time and travel — we appreciate your understanding.

  • Are there conditions that disqualify someone?

  • Tesamorelin is not appropriate for everyone. Active malignancy, pregnancy, certain pituitary or hypothalamic conditions, and other medical concerns may affect candidacy, while diabetes or glucose-control issues may require additional consideration and monitoring.

  • Is Tesamorelin FDA-approved?

  • Yes, Tesamorelin is FDA-approved to reduce excess abdominal fat in adults with HIV and lipodystrophy. It is not FDA-approved for general weight loss, anti-aging, athletic performance, or routine body-composition optimization.

  • How long does it take to notice increased pigmentation?

  • There is no established treatment timeline, and individual response can vary based on baseline skin tone, genetics, dose, and other factors. Changes in pigmentation may develop gradually rather than immediately.

  • Do I still need sunscreen while using Melanotan II?

  • Yes. Increased pigmentation does not eliminate the risk of UV-related skin damage or skin cancer. Broad-spectrum sunscreen and appropriate sun-protective measures remain important.

  • Do I need to tan or use UV exposure with Melanotan II?

  • Melanotan II can increase pigmentation, but intentional UV exposure carries established risks and should not be considered “safe” because Melanotan II is being used. We would avoid positioning tanning beds or additional UV exposure as part of the treatment protocol.

  • Can Melanotan II make freckles or moles darker?

  • It can increase pigmentation of existing freckles, moles, and other pigmented areas. Any new, rapidly changing, irregular, bleeding, itching, or otherwise concerning lesion should be evaluated by a qualified dermatology provider.

  • Candidacy requires individualized medical evaluation. A history of melanoma or other skin cancers, atypical/dysplastic nevi, concerning pigmented lesions, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or certain medical conditions may make treatment inappropriate or warrant additional evaluation.

  • What are the possible side effects?

  • Reported effects can include nausea, flushing, decreased appetite, headache, fatigue, increased pigmentation of freckles or moles, and changes in libido or spontaneous erections. Because Melanotan II is investigational, its complete long-term safety profile has not been established.
